Axis Solo founder Fintech

From AI prototype to paying customers, without hiring engineers.

A non-technical founder building an internal-tools product for a niche fintech market. Months of fragments in AI-assisted IDEs that couldn’t leave their laptop. Axis engagement: one repo, one product, the workflow installed end to end.

Situation

A founder with deep domain knowledge in a fintech vertical had been building with AI tools for around six months. The product worked on their machine in flashes — different prototypes for different features, none of them stitched together, none of them deployable. They’d started talking to early customers but couldn’t put anything in front of them.

They’d already considered hiring a developer and decided against it. Their concern wasn’t the cost — it was that handing the build to someone outside the business meant losing the loop they had with their AI tools, where they could turn an insight into a working change in an afternoon.

What we installed

A single-repo Axis engagement. We brought in a starting template with folders, configs, and conventions sorted; staging and production environments wired to a hosting account they already owned; an agent pipeline with planner, builder, and reviewer roles; brief and runbook templates; and a one-week training pass with the founder driving the workflow live.

The agent pipeline was the lever. They kept the same prototyping speed they were used to, but every change went through a brief, a plan, a feature branch, and a review gate before it touched staging. The founder still wrote the briefs themselves — that part stayed firmly with the person who knew the customers.

Results

  • Four weeks from engagement kickoff to first paying customer
  • Zero engineers hired — the founder runs the loop solo
  • Average feature cycle of around three days from brief to staging in the first month after handover
  • 30-day support window used twice; both times for tooling questions, not broken builds

Builder’s insight

The temptation with a solo founder is to over-engineer for the future team they don’t have yet. We didn’t. Single-user git, no PR review gates, the simplest CI that runs tests on push. The workflow can grow into Vector when there’s actually a second person on it. Until then, every piece earns its place by saving them time today.
